McLaren in talks over Montoya release

NASCAR car brand Dodge is in talks with McLaren about releasing Juan Pablo Montoya from his 2006 formula one contract.

The Colombian driver’s 2007 employer, Chip Ganassi, had hoped to give 30-year-old Montoya an early start in the American category this year, but Ron Dennis insisted last month that any suitor would have to negotiate a buyout of the existing McLaren deal.

An American report said that Ganassi partner Dodge’s director of motor sports, Michael Accavitti, is ‘hoping for an early settlement on Montoya’.

Accavitti commented: ”The earliest looks like sometime in October, but we’re looking to try to move that up.”
