Spyker and Ferrari

Spyker MF1 Racing is nearing an agreement to use Ferrari engines in 2007.

Officials for the newly sold and renamed Formula One team, which has lost its Toyota power to Williams for the 2007 season, met with Ferrari’s Maranello base in Italy on Tuesday in order to sign a contract, according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad.

The main other option for Spyker is independent British engine maker Cosworth, who has lost their Williams deal to Totota and their Toro Rosso deal to either Renault or Ferrari, depending on which engines Red Bull end up using.

Spyker Cars’ CEO Victor Muller is quoted by the newspaper as confirming the Maranello meeting, which concerned discussions over the fine detail of any engine deal with Ferrari.

However, he also insisted: “You should not draw any conclusions as we are in similar talks with Cosworth.”
