A new contract for Nick Heidfeld is now in the hands of the German driver’s lawyers, according to reports in Germany.

The Munich based daily newspaper TZ said on Friday that the 30-year-old will definitely race with the BMW-Sauber team also in 2008, with his new contract containing two additional ‘option’ years.

He will reportedly earn (US) $8.2m next season, plus $27,000 per point and $275,000 per win.

Heidfeld’s manager Werner Heinz would not confirm the news but said: “Nick does not need to worry about his future in formula one.”
