Webber says revised Barcelona safer

Mark Webber has given the thumbs-up to Barcelona’s revised layout for formula one, despite admitting that it is now less fun to drive.

The Australian, who is a director of the safety-oriented Grand Prix Drivers’ Association, got an early taste of the Spanish venue’s updated section when putting the first laps on Red Bull’s new ‘RB3’ race car.

Circuit de Catalunya’s final section is now slower, but the 30-year-old admitted that the two right-handers used to be a safety worry.

“If you had a failure then you were going (to go) in hard,” Webber said. “It used to be (a) brilliant (section) but it is a big shunt.”
