Hakkinen won’t race for Toro Rosso – Berger

Gerhard Berger has ruled out wild speculation that retired double world champion Mika Hakkinen might make a bombshell return to formula one with Toro Rosso in 2007.

The Hakkinen rumours arose recently when Toro Rosso co-owner Berger, a former track rival, revealed that he urged the Finn to give up DTM and return to F1.

Toro Rosso is the only team in pitlane yet to confirm its driver lineup for the coming season, amid reports that Sebastien Bourdais, Robert Doornbos and Ernesto Viso have also joined the list to possibly replace 2006 lineup Vitantonio Liuzzi and Scott Speed.

Berger told Auto Motor und Sport: “There were no negotiations with Mika, only a discussion among friends.”
