BMW never a serious option – Alonso

Oct.9 (GMM) Fernando Alonso on Thursday played down suggestions that moving to BMW-Sauber was ever a serious possibility for 2009
The Spaniard has a solid contract to remain at Renault next year, but the deal would allow him to change teams at his discretion
The recent renewal of Ferrari’s current lineup was interpreted as one top alternative removed for 27-year-old Alonso, and BMW has this week confirmed that it too will stay with the same drivers next year
“It was never a possibility,” the double world champion said at Fuji Speedway
“Also for them (BMW). It was never a serious approach. They were quite happy with their drivers and there was no time to talk for me.”nnThe Spaniard said he will make his final decision about 2009 after the season ending Brazilian grand prix
Just as Alonso is likely to stay at Renault, so too is it widely presumed that Jenson Button will remain with Honda next year
The British driver on Thursday said a new contract is not yet signed
“I am positive for next year and hopefully I will be with Honda next season and we can build a very competitive car,” Button, 28, said in Japan
He said he is not nervous about his contractual situation
“We are not in a rush, it’s fine,” Button insisted
