Caterham test driver Giedo van der Garde will replace Heikki Kovalainen in First Practice during this week`s Japan Grand Prix. It will be Dutch driver second appearance in Formula 1.
Earlier Van der Garde showed his skills in China where he was 19th, about 0,5 sec. slower than another Caterham driver, Heikki Kovalainen.
Now 27 years old Dutch will replace Finnish driver and he is expected to drive in next FP1 this season replacing Kovalainen or Vitaly Pietrov. Van der Garde finished 6th in this season`s GP2 Series with two wins – in Spain and Singapore. He drove for Caterham Racing.
