Red Bull’s preparations for the Formula 1 season have been given a significant boost as they managed to secure Adrian Newey’s arrival at the team nearly two months earlier than first planned for.

A spokeswoman for the Ferrari-powered team confirmed to Reuters on Thursday that Newey would start work on Monday as chief technical officer.

Red Bull said in November, upon the announcement of a major coup in signing the Briton from McLaren, that he would join at the end of February. The season starts in Bahrain on March 12.

Adrian Newey designed the 1996 and 1997 Williams as well as the 1998 and 1999 McLaren cars that all won the constructors championships as well as powering Damon Hill, Jacques Villeneuve and Mikka Hakkinen (twice) to drivers world titles.
