Germany defends ‘Schummel Schumi’

Germany has leapt to Michael Schumacher’s defence after the F1 paddock widely condemned him at Monaco.

Although leading daily ‘Bild’ ran with the predictable headline ‘Schummel (naughty) Schumi’ after his now infamous Rascasse incident, local television ran a poll asking viewers if they believed the stewards’ decision was right or wrong.

Only 26 per cent thought they got it right, while 74 per cent ruled that the back-of-the-grid order was overly hard.

”It would have been nice if I had known about that before the race,” Schumacher smiled.

”It seems that not everyone is against me!”
