Rubens Barrichello has reacted angrily to rumours that he is likely to retire from F1 at the end of 2007.
The veteran Brazilian, with 230 grands prix under his belt, was quoted this week as not wanting to match Riccardo Patrese’s all-time record of 256 starts.
”It will be one of the saddest decisions of my life,” the 34-year-old told Auto Bild magazine.
But in his personal website column, Barrichello indicated that he was surprised to read the rumours whilst working hard at last week’s test at Jerez.
”Give me a break,” he exclaimed.
”I think I’ve never driven this well nor been this happy, so retirement is something to think of only way, way ahead.”
Barrichello reports that Honda’s uncompetitive 2006 car did not improve ‘radically’ at the Spanish session, ‘but it has improved’.
