German Timo Glock (24) has been signed on as test driver number two for the BMW Sauber F1 Team during the 2007 season. He will be supporting team drivers Nick Heidfeld (Germany) and Robert Kubica (Poland) as well as Sebastian Vettel (Germany), who was already confirmed as a test and reserve driver for the team in October.

“We’ve known Timo for a long time already,” explains BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen. “After all, he started out on his formula motor racing career in Formula BMW six years or so ago and won two titles. He’s since enjoyed success and gathered experience in various different formulas, including Formula 3, Formula One and the Champ Car series in the US. In 2006 he performed extremely impressively in the exciting GP2 series. He will assist us with our testing work. There are no plans to involve Timo on the Fridays before the races.”

Glock comments: “I got to know the team during my two test sessions in Barcelona and Jerez and I’m really looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the BMW Sauber F1.07 in 2007. Driving a Formula One racing car is quite simply the greatest challenge you can have as a racing driver. Formula One has always been my goal.”

Alongside this, Glock will be contesting his second season in the GP2 series with the iSport team. He finished fourth in the closely-fought series in 2006, where drivers go head-to-head in 600 bhp 4-litre V8 machines. He notched up two race wins during the season and was on course for third place in the championship when an accident at Monza stopped him in his tracks. He was forced to watch Sunday’s race from the sidelines after injuring his hand in the first race of the season’s final weekend.
