The cooperation between Super Aguri and Honda could be ramped up for 2007.
Aguri Suzuki’s fledgling outfit benefited from carmaker Honda’s input to make the grid this year, while the current car is fitted with a Honda engine and gearbox and has received works R&D support.
But while Super Aguri’s bid to run a customer Honda chassis next year failed, amid suggestions of the Japanese giant’s waning support, it is understood that Honda intend to use the opportunity of having a ‘satellite’ team to greater effect in the future.
Honda test driver Anthony Davidson is now top of the list to race in current Aguri peddler Sakon Yamamoto’s place in 2007, but the cooperation may go even further, such as via data sharing.
Alongside Briton Davidson at Super Aguri in 2007 will be Takuma Sato, another former works Honda test and race driver.
“Next year we have to get better results and so we want more collaboration with Honda,” team owner and principal Aguri Suzuki confirmed.
