F1’s Christijan Albers joined spectators at the weekend for the start of the Dakar rally.
250 competitors on Saturday left Lisbon, Portugal, for the world’s toughest off-road race consisting of cars, motorbikes and trucks.
The finish line is in Dakar, Senegal, on 21 January.
27-year-old Albers, who races in formula one for Spyker and is sponsored by the Dutch arm of the truck company MAN, was a guest of the Dakar team Exact-MAN.
He said: “I really respect the drivers who join the Dakar rally. It is really heavy and exciting.
“Maybe one day I would like to race Dakar too.”
