Christijan Albers drove a strong race at Suzuka on Sunday. The Dutchman started from thirteenth position and was able to fight with various drivers as he was fighting to keep his position. His lap times were steady until he had to come in for his second pitstop.
Christijan’s second pitstop didn’t go as planned. There was a fire and Albers had to jump out of the car not to get burned. The team quickly took out the fire and without any hesitation Christijan jumped back into the car to continue his race and take the chequered flag in seventeenth.
Although he was on fire Christijan is doing fine after the race. “I’m fine, don’t worry,” Christijan said. “It was a bit of a chaotic situation but you’re not that often on fire.”
“It’s unfortunate that we had these problems in the pitlane because the race went very well. My lap times were consistent and fast enough to finish ahead of the Jordan drivers.”
The next and last Grand Prix of the season will be next week in Shanghai, China. It will be a very special team for the Minardi team as it will be the team’s last official race as the team was bought by Red Bull.
