Christijan Albers has stated on his website on Friday morning that he has signed a new contract to race for the Dutch-owned Spyker team in 2007.
An official press release will be issued from Shanghai in the afternoon.
Among the candidates for the sister seat are Dutchman Albers’ current team-mate Tiago Monteiro, Red Bull refugee Christian Klien – who this weekend is watching the event on television in Austria – and third drivers including Adrian Sutil and Alexandre Premat.
Of course, after Jos Verstappen’s fallout with the Dutch A1 team ahead of the season-opening race at Zandvoort on Sunday, many a Dutch Formula One fan will be hoping that Spyker looks to the older driver following his breathtaking drives in the A1 series last season but there has not even been a murmur about this possibility.
