Alonso admits ‘flexible’ Renault deal

Fernando Alonso has been quoted as suggesting he may be able to leave Renault at the end of 2008.

The term of the double world champion’s new contract was not officially disclosed, but it was rumoured at the time that – prior to the deal being finalised – the parties were at loggerheads about how long the Spaniard should be committed to staying at the French team.

Most authoritative media sources at the time of the signing were convinced that the 26-year-old had inked a two-year deal, perhaps with an exit clause in the event that Renault does not perform in 2008.

Alonso told Sport Bild: “I have signed a contract until 2009, but it is very flexible.”
