Alonso admits ‘love’ for Renault faded

Fernando Alonso has suggested that he is looking forward to leaving Renault.

To the Auto Motor Und Sport magazine in Germany, the 2006 championship challenger insisted that he needs a ‘wallpaper change’ after five years at the French team.

”My love for Renault is gone,” Spaniard Alonso, 25, who will switch for the 2007 season to McLaren, said.

With three grands prix to go in 2006, he is now just two points in front of Ferrari’s Michael Schumacher for the title.

Referring to his Renault career, Alonso continued: ”Together we came from fourth place in the constructors’ championship to the top.

”You can’t do more than that.

”I also do not believe that Renault will spend enough money in the future that will be necessary to keep winning.”

He says Woking based McLaren is, therefore, the safest bet. ”In the last ten years they were always among the top teams.”

Alonso continued: ”The danger that they are going to fall to eighth position next year is small.”
