Fernando Alonso has completed a global tour in celebration of his successive drivers’ championship win in 2006.

After lifting the trophy in Sao Paulo, the Spaniard’s first journey was back to England, where he thanked the more than 500 staff at the single seater factory in Enstone.

25-year-old Alonso then moved to his home city of Oviedo (Spain), where on the weekend he stood before 20,000 countrymen.

He completed the tour on Monday, when he flew to Viry-Chatillon, where Renault’s 2.4 litre V8 engines are born.

‘AS’ newspaper says Alonso spent two hours at the factory, located on the outskirts of France’s capital city, Paris.
