McLaren is not planning a regular event for the launch on Monday of its 2007 F1 car, the MP4-22.
We have learned that, at the close of the official unveiling in Valencia, the Woking based team’s new driver – back to back world champion and Spaniard Fernando Alonso – will blast the silver challenger through the streets of the major eastern city.
“I met several times with (team boss) Ron Dennis and we decided that we wanted to do something more than a simple car presentation,” the Valencia government’s president Francisco Camps said.
It is understood that the cost of the temporary street circuit has run into more than $1m — an expense shared by Valencia, with ambitions to stage a grand prix, and McLaren backers.
The elaborate launch may also include a performance of the famous Cirque du Soleil troupe.
