Alonso to give Renault secrets to McLaren

Fernando Alonso says he will offer McLaren ‘advice’ about how he soared to successive championships at former team Renault.

Visiting his home town of Oviedo for a Spanish sponsor on Wednesday, the 25-year-old did not shy away from suggestions that some of Renault’s secrets will accompany him to the Mercedes-powered camp.

“They have not won the title in recent years so I want to help McLaren to find the way back to victory,” the newspaper As Diario quoted Alonso as saying.

He said he would give Woking based McLaren ‘advice’ about ‘the techniques we used at Renault’.

However, Alonso cautioned expectations that he might win a third successive drivers’ crown next year.

“In the pre-season I never think it is going to be easy to win, and I thought the same thing also in 2005 and 2006.

“Now I see my chances as very difficult, almost impossible, but how you go in the first races can give you more confidence. In the pre-season your hopes to win are always very low.”
