Alonso wants ‘safe’ run to title

Pat Symonds says he hopes Michael Schumacher reconsiders conceding the drivers’ championship to Fernando Alonso after his engine failure at Suzuka.

”If he made that comment,” the Renault chief told reporters in Japan, ”I suspect he’ll reflect overnight and he’ll be back fighting in Brazil.”

Both Symonds and Spaniard Alonso, however, promised not to take ‘undue risks’ in Brazil in two weeks, where an eighth place will seal the drivers’ crown.

25-year-old Alonso said of Schumacher’s smoky failure: ”The same thing can happen (to us) to us so we just need to be really safe.”
