Michael Ammermuller will be Red Bull’s “reserve driver” at all grands prix in 2007.
That is the revelation of the Austrian squad’s motor sport advisor Helmut Marko, who said Dutch test regular Robert Doornbos is going to have too many clashes with his impending commitment in the US-based Champ Car series.
Germany’s 21-year-old Ammermuller, on the other hand, will this year race in F1’s support category, GP2.
“Because of his presence (at the GP circuits, Ammermuller) is the reserve driver,” Marko is quoted as saying by motorsport-total.com.
Marko, himself a former grand prix pilot, added that should Ammermuller need to fill in for David Coulthard or Mark Webber, he would have to relinquish his GP2 cockpit at the event in question.
Ammermuller drove for the GP2 team Arden in 2006 and for this year has switched to ART.
