Today the World Motor Sport Council met in Rome to discuss certain issues regarding the world of motorsport for the 2006 season. One of the issues on the agenda was the calendar for the 2006 Formula One season.

Australia has hosted the first race of the season since 1996. But next year, the city of Melbourne will be hosting the 2006 Commenwealth Games, which collides with the start of the Formula One season, and even the local national sport of Australian Rules Football. This has caused an upset with some people, but an agreement has been made for next season on the new opening race.

Bahrain has been chosen to host the first race of the 2006 season. The middle-eastern country hosted its first Grand Prix during 2004 season, and has impressed many with its long winding straights, to its state-of-the-art facilites. Now the Australian Grand Prix will be held on the 2nd of April.
