BMW’s Mario Theissen says the German manufacturer does not expect to beat its arch rival Mercedes-Benz in the 2007 world championship standings.
The Swiss based BMW-Sauber outfit has undoubtedly closed the gap to F1’s traditional frontrunners over the pre-season period, but motor sport director Theissen is still officially targeting just fourth or fifth in the constructors’ battle.
BMW and Mercedes-powered McLaren demonstrated a similar performance in the winter test sessions, but German Theissen told ‘dpa’: “Mercedes has a different level of expectations than BMW this season.
“This year it won’t be a battle of equals.”
