BMW quick and reliable in Bahrain

Nick Heidfeld put a stop to suggestions that his quick BMW is not reliable enough by lapping the Bahrain circuit more than 100 times as testing continued in the Arabian Gulf on Friday.

The German set the best time of the day – nearly a second clear of world champion Fernando Alonso’s McLaren – during a qualifying run. The other F1.07, steered by Robert Kubica, appeared higher in the time sheets than both 2007 Ferraris.

“This was a very satisfying day,” Heidfeld told reporters, “as the last time (we did a race simulation) we had some technical problems.”

Bahrain turned on a windy day with a top of 26 C. After Saturday’s running, testing will resume at the Sakhir venue next Tuesday morning.
