BMW Sauber are targeting their first win in the upcoming 2008 Formula One season following a successful 2007.

The Swiss-based outfit claimed second place in the constructor’s championship behind champions Ferrari, scoring two podiums on their way to scoring 103 points.

BMW Sauber have made an impressive start to their short career, outshining big manufacturers Toyota and Honda, and team boss Dr Mario Theissen believes the team can make an even bigger step forward to score the team’s first win.

“For 2008 we have set ourselves the target of closing the gap to the leading teams; in addition, we intend scoring our first Grand Prix victory,” said Theissen.

BMW took over Peter Sauber’s outfit in 2006 having failed to buy Williams and made an instant impact with Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica taking a podium each.

2007 proved to be even more successful with the team scoring two more podiums and consistently finishing in the points.

The Swiss-based squad will retain German Nick Heidfeld and Pole Robert Kubica for the third consecutive season and will launch their 2008 challenger on 14 January in Munich.
