Nick Heidfeld has denied that the FIA’s clamp-down on flexible floors ahead of the Malaysian grand prix is going to slow the dominant Ferrari team.
The German driver, whose team BMW-Sauber was also specifically implicated in the recent bodywork saga, said any minor changes to cars will still leave the Maranello based squad way out in front.
The FIA’s Charlie Whiting was photographed inside the Ferrari garage at Sepang on Thursday, while mechanics worked on the floor of the F2007.
“On average they are more than a second per lap faster than the others,” 29-year-old Heidfeld is quoted as saying by the Spanish newspaper Diario As.
He explained: “Changing their floor is not going to wipe away that advantage.
“The hierarchy in Malaysia is going to be similar to what everyone saw in Australia.”
