Bourdais – F1 option still open

Reigning Champ Car champion Sebastien Bourdais has indicated that he is still on track for a seat in formula one in 2008.

Scott Speed secured this year’s ride for the Faenza based Toro Rosso squad in the eleventh hour, but team figures also expressed a keen interest in 27-year-old Bourdais, a Frenchman, after his impressive winter tests in the Red Bull-liveried car.

Asked about his future in a Champ Car media conference, Bourdais said: “There’s one step for me that might be available, but we still have to be waiting on it.”

He appeared to caution that, while working for Newman-Haas nearly guarantees him a winning single seater, that same warrantee would be missing in a mid-field grand prix team.

Again referring to his option for the future, Bourdais explained: “It might be formula one, but again, I really want to be competitive, and (in Champ Car) I’m given everything I need to do this.”
