Sebastien Bourdais on Sunday won his last Champ Car race before switching to formula one with Toro Rosso in 2008.

The Frenchman, whose Mexico victory capped his fourth consecutive successful championship season in the American open-wheel category, won for the 31st time in his 73rd race.

In Champ Car, Bourdais also earned 28 poles and 44 podiums, and won eight of the 14 races in 2007.

“Everybody was really emotional today, and I was, too,” the 28-year-old said after the race, where he was penalised earlier on Sunday for a tyre-squealing practice start.

Bourdais added: “It was really, really strange just to finally realise that it was going to be the last time.”

He will join the Toro Rosso team in Barcelona this week, where he will test for the first time since being confirmed for the 2008 season.
