Brawn admits team boss role ‘an option’

Ross Brawn says he would need a “new challenge” if he returned to formula one after taking a sabbatical in 2007.

Ferrari’s former technical director, who is currently on an extended fishing holiday around the world with his wife, told the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport that he will not simply resume his old job at the Maranello team.

“If I return, I will need a new challenge,” the 52-year-old Briton said.

Brawn is rumoured strongly to be a contender for Jean Todt’s role as team principal in 2008 and beyond.

He told the magazine that the position is “an option”.

He is unlikely to join a rival team, insisting that “Ferrari gave me so much that it would be only fair if I first spoke with them (about a F1 return)”.

For the moment, however, Brawn is content to tour the fishing locations in Argentina, New Zealand, Mexico, the USA and Russia.

Referring to his sabbatical, he said: “I simply needed a wallpaper change.”
