Flavio Briatore may be a so-called ‘Playboy’, but the 56-year-old Italian has revealed some of the secrets of his success in the business world.
The managing director and team principal of Renault, winners of the drivers’ and constructors’ championships in 2005 and 2006, told the executive magazine ‘think: act’ that he is not in love with high speed.
“I am not particularly passionate about formula one,” he explained. “I just want to win.”
Briatore also runs a successful driver-management business and a string of high-end nightclubs but he found his way into the paddock in the 80s through his non-racing links with the clothing company Benetton.
In an interview, Briatore admitted that he likes to have a good time, but insisted: “I am also very disciplined and work hard.”
He also likes a challenge, evidenced in Renault’s recent beating of better-financed F1 teams including Ferrari, McLaren, Toyota and Honda.
Briatore said: “The more insurmountable the objectives seem, so much the better.”
