Clashing Massa splits with engineer

Ferrari newcomer Felipe Massa split with his race engineer at the Nurburgring, following an apparent clash of personality.

37-year-old Gabriele Delli Colli, who formerly worked with race winner Rubens Barrichello at the Italian team, was replaced indefinitely at the German race by test engineer Rob Smedley.

”Between myself and my (former) engineer,” podium debutant Felipe Massa told Gazzetta dello Sport, ”we did not have a good partnership.”

The 24-year-old racer hypothesised that the clash of overtly ‘Latin’ personalities – with Delli Colli being an Italian – might have been the cause of the problem.
