Column Ialdo Belo – Two curves, one winner.

How Nico Rosberg won the Brazilian GP in such spectacular way, more than 6 seconds ahead of his team-mate Lewis Hamilton? Well, let´s see the reason.

Interlagos is a very selective racing track. That´s why it´s one of the favorites tracks among F1 drivers. To race in Interlagos successfully, be a world champion maybe is not good enough and that Rosberg showed to Hamilton.

The Brazilian track has its secrets and the key to being a winner there is to know then. Rosberg conquered two back-to-back wins giving no chances to Hamilton even think about victory. But how? Hamilton is considered faster than Rosberg, has three world titles in his tail but never won a Grand Prix in his idol Ayrton Senna motherland, and believe: his has been trying hard. It´s the only track where he didn’t win yet, besides Mexico.

The reason can be resumed in two strange Portuguese words: Laranjinha and Junção.

Laranjinha (little orange) is a very difficult curve at Interlagos. Its original name, before tracking modification few years ago, was Laranja (orange). It´s a Brazilian slang that means “a driver who get scared in a curve”. After the reform, the original curve got a little bit shorter and that´s the reason to change its name to a diminutive one.

On the other hand, Junção (junction) is another very hard curve.

To win at Interlagos, a driver must handle to take both curves in a special way, smoothly, and Rosberg just know how to do this better than Hamilton.

That´s why even changing tyres one lap after Rosberg, Hamilton couldn´t keep the same pace because his tyres degradation was far superior compared to the Nico´s car.

Just simple like that!

Or not?
