De la Rosa denies 2007 seat secure

Pedro de la Rosa says he still is not sure if he will secure the race seat at McLaren alongside countryman Fernando Alonso in 2007.

Twenty four hours after F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone revealed that ‘Lewis Hamilton will not have a race drive’ in 2007, 35-year-old de la Rosa rejected that his role at the team next year is now common knowledge behind closed doors at Woking.

“Everything is up in the air,” Spaniard de la Rosa insisted the ‘Marca’ newspaper.

He suggested that McLaren chiefs including Ron Dennis would choose between him and GP2 champion Hamilton over the winter.

De la Rosa said in Sao Paulo: “I am here after the team compared me with Hamilton at a test.

“I think it will be a long winter with many tests like that. We’ll see.”
