Robert Doornbos is reportedly weighing up an offer to switch to Champ Cars in 2007.
The Dutchman, who commenced a three-GP stint as David Coulthard’s teammate at Red Bull in Shanghai, is not going to play a racing role for either of the energy drink company’s F1 teams next year.
However, according to the Formule 1 RaceReport publication, Red Bull has offered the 25-year-old a funded seat in the American open wheeler category, a move that is supported by Doornbos’ sponsor Muermans.
”I am thinking about it seriously,” Doornbos confirmed.
His manager, Marco Zecchi, also revealed that should Doornbos accept the offer, he would remain part of the formula one family and occasionally test the car.
