Doornbos to be ‘reserve’ in Australia

Robert Doornbos is not Red Bull Racing’s full time ‘reserve driver’ in 2007, but it has emerged that the Dutchman will fulfil the role at the season opening Australian grand prix and elsewhere this year.

The team’s 25-year-old test driver, who is on the verge of having his deal to race for Paul Stoddart’s Minardi entry in Champ Car this year officially announced, is free to travel to Melbourne because the Albert Park event falls between a test in America and the start of the Champ Car calendar.

Germany’s Michael Ammermuller, who will race in GP2 this year, will be Red Bull’s reserve driver when Doornbos is unavailable.
