DRS only in restricted zones in all sessions

FIA confirmed reports that in next year`s Formula 1 season drivers will use DRS only in restricted zones during whole racing weekend.

From 2011, when DRS was introduced, drivers were able to use it on whole track during practice sessions and qualifications. In races they were allowed to use DRS in one or two restricted zones.

Now they will activate Drag Reduction System in one or two (maximum) restricted zones on the track – in every single session during racing weekend.

F1 Race Director, Charlie Whiting said that such decision is determined by safety reasons as there were accidents because of using DRS during practice or qualifying sessions.

Of course, in opposition to races, now on Friday (Thursday in Monaco) and Saturday drivers will use DRS in restricted zones freely, without being less than one second after following driver.

Earlier FIA announced, that on most of the tracks in next year`s campaign there will be two DRS zones.
