Seven time world champion Michael Schumacher’s father has expressed relief that at least one of his famous sons will not be on the F1 grid next year.

While 31-year-old Ralf is gearing up for his eleventh season in grand prix racing in 2007, his elder brother has called it quits after winning a record 91 races.

Their father, Rolf Schumacher, appeared on Germany’s RTL television this week where he admitted to regularly worrying about his sons’ safety.

“I no longer have to worry about his car holding together, or whether he makes a mistake,” Schumacher Sr said.

Rolf also revealed that Michael Schumacher, the most successful formula one driver of all time, wanted as a child to be a racing driver ‘or a policeman’.

“He used to say, ‘either way, I can drive fast!’!”
