Ferrari have ‘blown it’ – Lauda

Mon, 9 October 2006, 09:25

Former world champion Niki Lauda slammed Ferrari for blowing Michael Schumacher’s championship hopes with a rare engine failure at Suzuka.

”I have no idea how they could blow it like this,” the Austrian told RTL.

”Something must have slipped through quality control.”

Michael Schumacher’s race engineer Chris Dyer, meanwhile, conceded that everyone in red overalls was ‘destroyed’ that a solid championship challenge went up in the first engine smoke since 2001.

But the Australian insisted: ”We will try to keep the pressure on Renault in Brazil.”

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo agreed that the world championship will only be decided in the ‘last metre’ at the Sao Paulo race.
