Ferrari rival pans “high risk”” 2007 car”

An unnamed ‘senior technical analyst’ at a rival team has questioned the design of Ferrari’s new car.

It was reported this week that while most outfits have unveiled short-wheelbase cars to cope with the characteristics of Bridgestone’s control tyre, the Maranello based squad uniquely has a longer car than in 2006.

The London based ‘Times’ newspaper suggested that winter testing has shown that shortening the wheelbase is the best way to minimise the degradation of the rear tyres.

The newspaper also said rival teams have been “amazed” by the Ferrari design.

The analyst said: “It’s a high risk strategy and with all the changes they’ve had with staff, if it goes wrong they’ll struggle.”
