Ferrari’s Brawn laments Webber failure

Ross Brawn could barely contain his enthusiasm after Michael Schumacher took a six-points bite out of Fernando Alonso’s championship lead in Germany.

The Ferrari technical director called Schumacher’s Hockenheim win ‘very important’ as it means that Renault rival Alonso can no longer settle for second places as the calendar winds down to the last six grands prix.

Brawn told ‘RTL’: ”We could hardly expect for more. It’s a shame that Mark Webber failed to finish but one should not be too greedy!”

The Englishman refers to the fact that if Webber’s Williams had not ground to a halt with technical gremlins, Schumacher would have clawed yet another point closer to Alonso.

Brawn said he was feeling optimistic as the sport now dashes to Budapest.

”I don’t know what the problem is with Renault, I only know that our car and tyres were fantastic.

”We have many reasons to be optimistic.”
