Fisi proves passing possible at Monaco

Giancarlo Fisichella dispensed with tradition at Monaco by proving that overtaking is not impossible in the Principality.

The Renault driver, dumped by stewards down the grid to ninth for blocking David Coulthard in qualifying, performed what he calls two ‘great moves’ at the chicane to end up sixth.

”Everyone always says that you cannot pass in Monte Carlo,” Rome’s Fisichella told Gazzetta dello Sport, ”but after the tunnel I passed both Villeneuve and Coulthard.”

He also passed Nico Rosberg.

Fisichella’s team chiefs also hailed his performance on Sunday.

Pat Symonds said: ”I cannot remember a driver working so aggressively in many years to move through the field here at Monaco.”
