Robin Frijns keeps his mouth carefully shut, when questions are asked about his chances for 2014. The talented Dutchmen has been linked by several websites (one of them is the high rated Autosport.com) to the Formula 1-team of Caterham, but Frijns replies to these rumours in a political correct way.
Robin Frijns has had a impressive recordbreaking carreer by winning many titles in catogories such as Formula BMW, Formula Renault 2.0 and Formula Renault 3.5, but last year has been a hard year for him. Because of financial problems he was able to drive only a handfull of GP2 races. His second GP2 weekend in Barcelona was still impressive, where he won Race 1 and became 2nd in race 2. But because of misfortune he couldn’t repeat that success in the rest of the season, in the midfield GP2 team of Hilmer Motorsport.
Frijns did some testing for the Sauber F1 team, where he was contracted as 3rd driver, but because of financial problems within the Sauber team, Frijns was replaced by paydriver Sirotkin. After that there was a silence around the Dutchmen, but recently Frijns did a rookie test for Audi in DTM.
When asked about the link between him and F1 team Caterham, he answers very carefully :
” Offcourse we are working very hard to get the best seat available for next year, but I simply can’t tell you more then that. When something is signed, I will bring this out to the press, meanwhile I can’t comment on anything ”
Frijns is not the only driver that has been linked to Caterham. Beside the 2013 drivers Giedo van der Garde and Charles Pic, also Heikki Kovalainen and GP2 driver Marcus Ericsson are linked to the team.
