Gene, de la Rosa, may race Le Mans in 2007

Ferrari test driver Marc Gene has successfully negotiated a seat for June’s 24 hour Le Mans race.

According to reports earlier this week, the Spaniard’s rumoured links to Peugeot’s lineup for the world famous endurance race in 2007 became the subject of an intense discussion between the two marques.

32-year-old Gene’s F1 role at Ferrari this year will likely be limited, due to the new agreement to limit testing.

He raced once in 2006 in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS), and his brother Jordi is a Le Mans regular.

The Spanish newspaper ‘Diario As’ claims that Ferrari boss Jean Todt has now given his approval to Gene’s contract, and that McLaren tester Pedro de la Rosa could be his teammate for the diesel-powered Peugeot 908.
