GP2 follows F1 with cost cutting

Jan.27 (GMM) Feeder series GP2 has followed formula one’s example by introducing cost-cutting measures

Designed to combat the impact of the global financial crisis, organiser Bruno Michel insisted that the sporting and technical changes will not affect the category’s “excitement and action”

Technical supplier Dallara has contributed to the “significant decrease in the cost of some spare parts”, while the regulations – including the banning of rig and wind tunnel usage – have been amended

Staff numbers have been capped at 13 people per team, reducing to twelve by mid-season, an in-season ban on testing imposed, and an “exceptional credit” for spare parts introduced by the GP2 organisation

“We are confident that our plan will help everyone go through the difficult period we are in,” said Michel
