Mika Hakkinen will arrive at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya on Wednesday, as speculation mounts that the 1998 and 1999 world champion is scheduled to test a McLaren.
The 38-year-old Finn, likely to be the Mercedes-powered team’s ‘sport advisor’ in 2007, has not yet signed a new contract to race in the German DTM category next season.
The London based Daily Telegraph newspaper wrote on Tuesday evening: “(Hakkinen) will join (2007 race driver Lewis) Hamilton in Barcelona tomorrow.”
A McLaren statement late on Tuesday announced that the test drivers on Wednesday will be ‘Lewis and Pedro (de la Rosa)’. The three day test in Spain concludes on Thursday.
