Heidfeld – Ferrari still ‘way ahead’

Friday’s extended testing in Malaysia ended without a red car on top, but Nick Heidfeld thinks Ferrari is nonetheless still “way ahead” of its formula one rivals.

The BMW driver had an engine problem and was sixth quickest at humid Sepang, however he insisted that his Hinwil based squad it still among the cream of the pecking order in 2007.

Heidfeld, 29, told reporters: “Ferrari are still way ahead of everyone. Then there is McLaren, and then there is us.”

Afternoon rain on Friday again hindered the pre-grand prix test near Kuala Lumpur; but struggling rookie Heikki Kovalainen enjoyed a moment in the right kind of spotlight by setting the quickest time.

The next group test takes place at Barcelona late next month.
