Nick Heidfeld says he hopes Felipe Massa beats his other ex-Sauber teammate Kimi Raikkonen in 2007.
Amid a growing sense of anticipation for the previously underrated Massa’s 2007 campaign, BMW’s Heidfeld agrees that the Brazilian has a chance to outshine his new and high-profile Ferrari teammate.
Heidfeld, 29, was Raikkonen’s teammate at Sauber in 2001, and at the end of the year was bitter at being overlooked for the vacant McLaren race seat.
Finn Kimi’s replacement at Sauber was Massa.
“In the first tests (Fernando) Alonso was in front,” Heidfeld answered when asked about the current state of play by the German newspaper Bild an Sonntag, “but Ferrari is clearly now the strongest team.”
He added: “I like Felipe a lot, and I could get to know him a lot better than I did with Kimi. I would be happy if Felipe drove out the front.”
