Mario Theissen has clarified press reports that suggested Nick Heidfeld is already guaranteed a seat at the BMW team in 2008.
It was earlier suggested that the 29-year-old German signed a definitive three year deal starting in 2006, but BMW motor sport director Theissen told ‘sid’: “It is conceivable that Nick stays with us, but there is no decision yet and we are not in a hurry.”
Presumably, Heidfeld’s three year deal was for two guaranteed seasons and an additional ‘option’ for one more year.
Rookie Sebastian Vettel will drive one of the two BMW Sauber race drivers on every Friday this year; a move that has been publicly criticised by Heidfeld.
