F1 team Honda on Monday confirmed speculation that it will race a green car with no sponsorship logos in 2007.
With the green, blue and black livery representing the globe, Honda said the innovative concept is to “help raise awareness of the environmental issues facing the planet”, although it is being pointed out by cynics that the idea coincides with the departure of sponsors including Lucky Strike and Intercond.
Many of the Brackley based team’s sponsors have stayed on board, and via the website myearthdream.com – featured on the rear wing and registered in January by the media management company 19 Entertainment – race fans can “make a donation” to a relevant charity and “have the opportunity to have their name” on a microscopic pixel on the car”, a statement from the media event in London read.
Universal Music and Gatorade are the first brands to associate with the concept, while Fila, IBM, Instron, Oliver Sweeney, Perkin Elmer, Showa Denko, TUV and GF Agie Charmilles have joined as partners or suppliers.
